December is always the busiest month in the Mayoral diary and events that Councillor Wattingham attended were the Recycled Teenagers Christmas Buffet, Houghton Regis Children’s Centre Christmas Drinks, Luton and Dunstable Hospital Christmas Light Switch On. Houghton Regis Youth Council’s Christmas Dinner, Mayor of Leighton-Linslade’s Christmas Carol Service, Your Marketing Needs Presentation to the Foodbank, SNOOSC Christmas Party, Vauxhall Male Voice Choir Christmas Concert, Bedford Borough Council Carol Service, Groundwork Youth Club X Factor, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Christingle Service, Mind2Gether Christmas Get Together, Mayor of Sandy’s Carol Service. In addition, Councillor Wattingham visited the Children’s Ward of the Luton and Dunstable Hospital on Christmas Eve to take gifts for the patients.  

During the month, each one of the Residential Care Homes and Sheltered Accommodation Schemes were visited and the residents were all given their special Houghton Regis Christmas cards along with a £2.50 voucher for the local Nisa store or in the case of some of the homes; the equivalent amount in Mince Pies and biscuits. The cards were well received by all the recipients of the town, which totalled over 500.

 In early December, Councillor Wattingham hosted the Houghton Regis Carol Service, which was held at All Saints’ Parish Church. Following the service Councillor Wattingham switched on the Christmas Tree Lights in Bedford Square, and refreshments were served by 1st/3rd Houghton Regis Scouts in the Library concourse area.

Councillor Wattingham also attended the Santa’s Grotto in Bedford Square, which was hosted by the Town Council. The event was held at Houghton Regis Library and approx. 250 children visited Santa over the course of his visit to the town!

The Youth Council took part in the event and helped with the running of the Grotto Each member of the group had a festive costume there was a Christmas Pudding, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Elves, and Regis the Lion!

Councillor Wattingham also visited the local schools and groups to present certificates to the groups that took part in a Celebration of Christmas.
