Mayoral events - May 2018

May 2018

Councillor Ken Wattingham’s term of office began on 16th May 2018.

In the speech that Councillor Wattingham made upon receiving the Chain of Office, he announced that he intended to raise funds for Headway, Kids In Action and 1st/3rd Houghton Regis Scout Group.

The first and foremost duty of the Mayor is to become the first citizen of the town. This role involves chairing meetings of the Town Council and attending Civic events in the town and the locality. Councillor Wattingham’s first official Mayoral engagement was to hold an Inaugural Reception at the Bedford Square Community Centre, immediately after the Annual Meeting.

Over 100 guests and dignitaries attended the Inaugural Reception, including the Town Mayor’s from Dunstable and Leighton-Linslade, fellow Councillors, representatives from the community and family members. The evening included a buffet and music from Pianist Mark Burton. The Inaugural Reception raised £200 for Councillor Wattingham’s charities, which was a great start to the year.

In May, Councillor Wattingham attended the three year anniversary of ‘Go Houghton’, the Mayor of Leighton-Linslade’s Charity Bingo Evening and the Dunstable Town Council Mayor Making Ceremony. Councillor Wattingham officially lit the Town Council’s Beacon to commemorate the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle and the open Day for the Houghton Hall Park Visitors Centre. It was to be the start of a very busy year in office.
