COMMITTEE UPDATES - October 2020

Town Council

An extraordinary meeting was held in March to discuss contingency plans in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

 At the Town Council meeting held on 18th March 2020 it was agreed that the Town Mayor Cllr McMahon and Deputy Mayor Cllr Thorne would continue in their roles for the municipal year 2020 – 2021. 

In line with government guidelines, it was agreed for all meetings to be held virtually.  

Of particular note was:

  • Continued discussions on the proposed Bidwell West community building
  • The approval of the audited annual governance and accountability return 2019/2020
  • The approval of the Vision: Our Vision Our Town (2020/2024)

 

Town Partnership

Many issues continue to be considered at this joint meeting, ranging from environmental health matters, car parking to the provision of services.

Of particular note was:

  • The welcoming of Mr Gibbons onto the Committee as a Co-opted member
  • Continued discussions on the community building
  • Were updated on Houghton Chalk Pit

 

Corporate Services Committee

This committee have:

  • Reviewed available s106 funding
  • Considered revisions of various town council policies.

 

Community Services Committee

This committee have:

  • Received reports about the youth work and Pop-up Youth Cafés in Houghton Regis during Covid-19;
  • Applied for funding to improve the services and facilities on offer to the Youth Café

 

Environment & Leisure Committee

This committee have:

  • Continued to address enviro crime matters reported by councillors.
  • Community defibrillators have been installed at Town Council Pavilions
  • Repaired and maintained existing play areas and outdoor gym equipment
  • Contributed to the New Houghton Regis Vision
  • Applied for funding for:   Refurbishment of Orchard Close Pavilion

 

 Planning Committee

This committee have:

  • Considered in excess of 50 planning applications, some were supported, some were objected to and some were commented on
  • Received updates on strategic development sites in the town and on the local plan.
  • Supplied Central Bedfordshire Council with suggested themes for street names for various developments in Houghton Regis
