665_2010-2011 Cllr R D Hines-page-001.jpg

Houghton Regis Town Council is sad to announce the passing of Councillor Robin Hines

on Saturday 27th January.

Councillor Hines served on the Houghton Hall Ward, since his election to the Town Council in May 2007; previously having served as Councillor in 1995 for a four year term

He became Town Mayor in 2010 and raised funds for Hospice at Home Volunteers, Help for Heroes and Keech Hospice Care. During his Mayoral Year, Councillor Hines attended many public engagements, the first of these being the opening of the Moore Crescent Sports Pavilion, in Houghton Regis (home to Houghton Regis Bowls Club).

Unbeknown to many of his colleagues, Councillor Hines had a talent for playing Bowls and it soon became an annual tradition, that he would play a game of Bowls at the annual Afternoon Tea, in aid of the Mayor’s charities.

His fellow players would all look forward to this game, which was kindly arranged by the members of Houghton Regis Bowls Club.

Another special event during his Mayoral Year, was the unveiling of the Town Sign in February 2011, of which Councillor Hines was very proud.

Councillor Hines became the first Honorary Freeman of the Town in November 2017, and a ceremony was held at the Town Council Offices.

He was presented with a special framed scroll in honour of his service to the town.
